The Cubs will have to discuss promoting top prospect Anthony Rizzo in June, according to manager Dave Sveum. Sveum added that Rizzo, a first baseman, will have to play regularly once he is called up to the Major Leagues.

Jamie Moyer has been designated for assignment by the Rockies. Moyer, 49, said in a news conference that he still had hopes of continuing his career elsewhere but his immediate plan was to return home and attend a son's high school graduation. "It's a tough pill to swallow but it's part of the business," the left-hander said. The Rockies recalled Carlos Torres from Triple-A Colorado Springs to take Moyer's roster spot.

Yankees catcher Russell Martin said plate umpire Laz Diaz decided on an unusual way to punish him for arguing balls and strikes. Martin said Diaz wouldn't allow him to throw new baseballs back to his pitchers after fouls during New York's 6-5 win over the Angels on Wednesday night. The catcher said he and Diaz got into it early in the game, and Martin said Diaz "was punishing me" by making all the throws himself.

Jonathan Lucroy told Milwaukee radio station WSSP-AM 1250 that his wife has received hateful messages since he broke his hand in a hotel room accident Sunday night. The Brewers catcher was hurt while reaching under the bed for a sock while his wife, Sarah, shifted a suitcase that fell and struck his right hand, fracturing the fifth metacarpal. "It's tough for me, because this is already a freak thing as it is," Lucroy said. "My wife has been getting hate mail on her Facebook, like, messages and stuff. It's really sad that these kinds of things happen from a freak thing. I mean, she didn't do it on purpose. It was an accident. Stranger things have happened. "It's been a battle for me, personally, because there's no one to blame, and my wife is getting killed by this. It's not like she's not hurt enough already, not feeling guilty enough already. I really wish people would just leave her alone, leave us alone, just let us try to move forward, and get this behind us, because this has been a brutal couple of days."

Hideki Matsui made baseball history on Tuesday when he played for the Rays against the White Sox. He became the first player to play 10 seasons of professional baseball in Japan and 10 seasons in the Major Leagues. Matsui broke a scoreless tie Tuesday night with a two-run homer in his second at-bat in an eventual loss for the Rays. Ichiro Suzuki played nine seasons in Japan before heading to the Major Leagues, where he has played for the Mariners for 12 seasons.

With the Reds in Pittsburgh to play the Pirates, a robber ransacked left-hander Aroldis Chapman's hotel room late Tuesday night and tied up a woman inside. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that two guests heard the woman's screams. Police do not believe it was an actual hotel employee who robbed the room and the woman and terrorized her. Chapman was not present, as his team was at PNC Park playing in a game delayed by rain.

The Cubs will work out potential number No. 1 draft pick Carlos Correa at Wrigley Field on Wednesday, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Correa, a 6-foot-4 shortstop from Puerto Rico, is 17 years old. The First-Year Player Draft is set to take place on Monday. "Obviously, I don't want to comment how we feel about him as an organization," said senior VP of scouting and player development Jason McLeod. "He is a very talented player. "We were able to see him down in Puerto Rico and we have seen him when he has come to the States. He is a kid we are going to talk a lot about this week."

Roy Oswalt has thrown bullpen sessions every other day for the past six weeks and believes he can be ready to join the Rangers after about four starts. Oswalt's first start at Triple-A Round Rock is slated for Saturday. "My arm feels great, my body feels great," the right-hander said. "I think we'll go out and try to have a 50- or 60-pitch count that first game and I'm hoping after about four starts to be ready to join the team." Oswalt, 34, said his back feels good and that others "have worse cases than I have."

Albert Pujols had a rough first month of the 2012 season, but he has started to hit in his first season as a member of the Angels. "Well, I knew it was going to take a couple of months for me to get used to all this," Pujols said on Tuesday night. "Still, it's a long season and I've got to continue to do what it takes for us to win." Including the homer he crushed off Andy Pettitte into the left-field bullpen at Angel Stadium on Tuesday night, Pujols has eight homers and 24 RBIs in the last 29 days.

The Giants have confirmed that Barry Bonds spoke to them about joining the franchise in some capacity, but that doesn't mean a role is imminent. "He approached us about doing something in an official capacity in the organization," president Larry Baer said. "We had a cordial conversation. Right now, there are no plans." Bonds told reporters on Monday that he'd like to return to the Giants as early as next season to instruct players, from big-leaguers to recent draftees, but it's questionable if he'd pursue a full-time coach's role at any level.
